Limpley Stoke Bridge and Winsley Hill Closure

6 week full closure of part of B3108 at Limpley Stoke railway bridge for bridge repairs.

Commencing 6am on 21st July until 6pm on 31st August 2025

From 21st July until 31st August 2025 Winsley Hill (B3108) will be closed 24/7 from its junction with Lower Stoke for approximately 100m towards Winsley to enable Network Rail to carry out urgent repairs to the underbridge following vehicle damage.

During this time, no traffic can travel under the railway bridge and a diversion will be clearly signposted. See diversion map below. This means the D1 bus can’t run as normal and alternative arrangements are in place. Wiltshire Council, with financial support from Network Rail, will be providing a free shuttle bus service between Winsley village and Bradford-on-Avon.

Pedestrian access
The status is that the bridge will be open to pedestrians and that cyclists will need to dismount. Marshals may occasionally need to stop pedestrians for a short time. There will be lighting after dark.

Bus Service details during the works

21st July until 31st August 2025

Daytime buses on Mondays to Saturdays
Wiltshire Council, with financial support from Network Rail, will be providing a free shuttle bus service operating between Winsley village and Bradford on Avon. The shuttle bus will run during the daytime from Monday to Saturday and will be operated by Beeline of Warminster. Passengers travelling to Bath will be able to transfer to the D1 or D1x services at Christchurch in Bradford on Avon, while those travelling to Trowbridge can change at Bradford-on-Avon Town Bridge. The full timetable for this service will be displayed at local bus stops.

Evening and Sunday Buses
Wiltshire Council has asked First Bus to arrange for existing D1 buses to run to Winsley during evenings and on Sundays but these arrangements are still being finalised. For more information about the changes to buses please contact Wilshire Council.

Provision of services for Limpley Stoke and Claverton
At the moment, Libra Travel bus service 94 provides a service every two hours from Limpley Stoke village to Bath during the daytime on Mondays to Fridays and will still be able to do so during the closure. However, this service normally runs into Bath via the University but as that will be closed during August, the possibility of rerouting it along the A36 to ensure that residents of Claverton continue have access to a bus service during the closure is being explored.

  1. Pedestrian Protection & Safety

  2. Traffic Management & Safety

  3. Parking in the Village

  4. Road & Pavement Maintenance

  5. Main Roads & Wider Area Issues (through the Valley Parishes Alliance VPA)
